Interlake records highlight week two And I thought Matt Malos first-career start at quarterback for the Saints in week one was exciting.

After the sophomore passed for 256 yards and three touchdowns in Interlake's season-opening win over Ingraham, he followed it up by teaming up with junior receiver Dylan Amell to completely shatter three school records in the Saints 53-48 wild win over Yelm on Friday night.

Malos, in only his second varsity start, threw a record-seven, yes SEVEN, touchdowns to help Interlake defeat the Tornadoes. Amell, who caught three touchdowns in week one, had five touchdowns (a school record) on 12 catches in the win over Yelm. Amell's 303 yards receiving also were a school record.

"This was a huge game and a huge win for our entire program and school," Interlake coach Sheldon Cross told me Monday morning. Huge is right.

Not only did Interlake go to 2-0, but they did it without one of their most dangerous weapons, junior running back Brett Kirschner, scoring a touchdown. That speaks volumes.

Looking at the stats alone is amazing. Through two games, Malos has passed for 10 touchdowns and 689 yards. Remember, this is a school known for its quarterbacks, a school that has produced NFL quarterbacks in Tom Flick and Steve Pelluer, a team where the next coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Jim Mora, once took snaps under center. Malos already is itching to etch his name into more Interlake records.

Amell has caught eight touchdowns in two games and the junior has proven himself to be the premier wide receiver in the KingCo 3A Conference this season.

With the two on the field, Interlake looks to be set for the near future. Remember, Malos is only a sophomore, Amell a junior. Not only are the two putting up video game-like numbers, but they still have nearly two seasons left together. Scary.

POWER RANKINGS

With Week two in the books, it's time to debut the Power Rankings for the 2008 season.

KingCo 3A

1. Bellevue Wolverines (2-0)

Bellevue's 38-19 win over 4A Bothell was a statement. Not only did Bellevue run all over last year's state runner-up, but the Wolverines defense, playing with injuries, held the Cougar offense to zero first-half points.

This week: 38-19 win vs. Bothell

Next up: vs. California High School of San Ramon, Calif. at Qwest Field, 9/20

2. Interlake Saints (2-0, 0-0)

Yes, the Saints haven't played the toughest non-league schedule, but with the weapons they have on offense, don't expect the Saints to fade in conference play.

This week: 53-48 win vs. Yelm

Next up: at Mount Si, 9/19

3. Juanita Rebels (1-1, 0-0)

Conference newcomers post a big 34-21 win over 4A Redmond in week two. The big question is, how will Juanita matchup with the conference's 3A teams?

This week: 34-21 win vs. Redmond

Next up: at Sammamish, 9/19

4. Liberty Patriots (1-1, 0-0)

After stomping Ballard last week, Woodinville does the stomping on Liberty in week two. Patriots still are expected to be one of the conference's toughest teams.

This week: 34-17 loss vs. Woodinville

Next up: at Mercer Island, 9/19

5. Mercer Island Islanders (1-1, 0-0)

Islanders were within a touchdown of 4A Newport this week. Four touchdown passes through the air against the Knights bodes well for Mercer Island once league play starts.

This week: 40-33 loss at Newport

Next up: vs. Liberty, 9/19

6. Mount Si Wildcats (0-2, 0-0)

Forget the record; Mount Si is better than this. No one has played a tougher non-league schedule than the Wildcats, who have lost to Eastlake (2-0) and Issaquah (2-0). Mount Si won't be here for long.

This week: 34-20 loss at Issaquah

Next up: vs. Interlake, 9/19

7. Sammamish Totems (0-2,0-0)

Totems allowed 34 points in both losses. It will be easier to assess the Totems once league play begins this week.

This week: 34-7 loss vs. Roosevelt

Next up: at Juanita, 9/19
